I worked on a self-initiated project by illustrating backgrounds (and characters) for an animated series, I separated my project into three different categories which are the three different areas labelled as kingdoms: Plains, Jungle and Maple/wooded. The series would be set around these 3 environments and their respective characters, and by the end of the series, I would bring them together through the ending of a larger narrative. This project was created with more consideration for my illustration skills and therefore, the plot of this animated series is not strongly built.
This project was heavily inspired by adventure time, creating different kingdoms making them fantastical. This project was a breakthrough for my illustration practise and a start to how I create my illustrations today. I illustrate my drawings through line art first, made up of water-resistant inks. I then fill the different shapes with base-coloured inks. and finish with shading the shapes in blue and lighting in yellow. I digitally manipulate my illustrations with lights, flares and changing tone levels.
